Wickham Care and Education Program
Our staff recognize the strengths and needs of each individual child and work towards extending the children’s thinking and development through positive interactions. We pride ourselves in our vibrant learning environment and child-centered program.
Infants’ Program
Through our well developed babies’ program, Wickham children and whanau experience a sense of predictability with consistencies that ensure strong links are developed between home and centre life.
Toddlers will be provided with opportunities to:
- Have one-on-one care and support of a staff member. (Staff have the primary responsibility for their allocated children/whanau groups for care, communication, profiles and support)
- Experience calm, nurturing, friendly relationships with staff.
- Feel secure with routines that promote a sense of belonging
- Feel valued and respected for their individual needs and requirements
- Develop at their own pace in a safe, supportive, learning environment
- Experience activities that stimulate independent exploration and movement
- Feel encouraged to extend their language and cognitive development
- Experience challenges and predictability within the centre program.
Preschool Program
Through our child centered program children will be provided with opportunities to:
- Feel a sense of belonging
- Contribute to group decisions and actions
- Develop a positive self image and self esteem
- Experience success through developmentally appropriate activities
- Feel valued and respected for their individual needs and learning styles
- Establish a range of respectful relationships encompassing cultural respect and personal idiosyncrasies
- Feel encouraged, extend their thinking and problem solving skills and develop independent exploration and expression
- Reflect on alternative ways of doing things
Wickham’s Preschool program is designed to be stimulating offering a mixture of free play, structured activities and routine tasks. A four year old ‘preparation for school’ group is held each morning.
We encourage you to be fully involved with the program and invite you to contribute by writing stories about your child’s interests or activities at home. These stories will be displayed on our program board and help staff to extend a particular interest that your child may have. Welcome to Wickham Preschool. We look forward to getting to know you and your children throughout the forthcoming years.
Regards,
Stacey and the Team
