Booked Hours
- Fees are charged on pre-booked hours
- Because our staff rosters are based on our booked enrolment numbers and times, it is very important that your child is collected at or before the booked departure time.
- Two weeks advance notice is required for permanent changes of hours.
- For temporary one off changes of hours please see the Manager or Team Leaders.
Children leaving after normal closing time (5.30pm) may be charged an additional $10.00 for each extra 10 minutes.
- Two weeks’ notice is required to terminate an enrolment.
Absences
- Absences are charged at the full booked in rate.
- Public holidays are charged at the booked in rate.
When spaces are available we offer free “make up” days if your child misses a day.
Sickness
- If a parent/caregiver is contacted by a staff member and informed of the child’s ill health, the parent must arrange for the immediate collection of the child.
- Children who develop temperatures of 38 degrees while at Wickham will be sent home immediately.
No child may enter or be left at Wickham if signs of infection have occurred in the Previous 24 hours. eg: vomiting, diarrhoea, rash, raised temperature. Refer - Wickham Sickness Policy.
- The Manager, Team Leaders and Public Health Nurse must be informed if the child has allergies or health problems that may require special consideration.
- If a child contracts an infectious disease while enrolled at Wickham the Manager or Team leaders must be advised immediately.
Immunisation
- It is now a legal requirement that Early Childhood Centres must sight Immunisation Certificates of all children who are over 15 months old.
• Copies of your child’s immunisation or non-immunisation certificate must be attached to your child’s enrolment form.
Discretionary Rules
- The Manager or Team Leaders may at their absolute discretion refuse to accept any child
- The Manager or Team Leaders may at their absolute discretion request the exclusion of any child or parent and may terminate an enrolment.
- In the absence of the parent/caregiver the Manager or Team Leaders are in absolute charge of children left in their care at Wickham.

- Wickham has a comprehensive set of policies and procedures which are regularly reviewed. The policies that are currently under review are on the parent notice board for viewing. Your comments are always appreciated.
- Please ask the Manager or Team Leaders if you would like a copy of any of our policies.
Daily Requirements
Sign In and Sign Out System
- It is a legal requirement that every child must be “signed in” and “signed out” of the centre daily. Please sign the attendance register when your child arrives and departs each day so we have an up to date log of who is in the centre in case of an emergency. To reduce our computer data entry at the end of the day we do appreciate you using our attendance scanner on arrival and departure too.
- An emergency contact person’s name and phone numbers must be left with us if a parent is not going to be available at any time your child is with us.
- Permanent change of address or phone numbers must be given immediately to the Manager or Team Leaders
Message Book (Babies Under 1yr)
Communication between home life and centre life is very important.
- Any changes to your child’s normal routine need to be recorded so staff can provide appropriate care for the day ie: broken night’s sleep, cutting teeth, change to family routine. Please inform your child’s teacher when required.
Food
Wickham Preschool has a ‘Healthy Food’ policy where children are encouraged to eat wholesome food.
- The costs of lunch, morning tea and afternoon tea are all included in your fees.
- The Menu includes mashed potatoes, mince, sausages, fresh vegetables, salad wraps, sandwiches, muffins, crackers, raw vegetables, fruit, raisins and filtered water.
- The weekly menu is written on the Menu Board (located beside the kitchen) for your information. Please confer with staff about your child’s
requirements.
- We happily administer expressed breast milk or formula milk but clearly named bottles/containers are essential.
- If your child has any allergies you must tell the Manager and document this with the enrolment form.
Medication
- We require parents to provide written permission for us to administer any medication. Only qualified staff are permitted to administer medications.
- Medication requirements must be written in the medication chart daily
- Instructions must be specific ie; day and date, child’s name, name of medicine, dose required, times required, signed by parent (medicine must be in original containers)
- Medicines must be given to a teacher and placed in the medical box on the fridge or in the fridge located in the kitchen (Child safe containers only)
- One staff member will measure the dose; another staff member will check and administer the medicine. Both staff members will sign the medication chart.
- Medication must be taken home daily. Collected by parents from the kitchen.

Clothing
Child's play is fun but can be messy. Children will need:
- Nappies –named disposables/ Cloth nappies–folded and in a named bag
- Spare undies and clothing /Suitable footwear (gumboots, shoes, slippers)
- All their clothing named (children and staff do not recognise what belongs to whom)
- Suitable clothing for play - Weather appropriate.
Rest and Sleep Routines
Under Two year olds:
- Children’s home routines for sleeping and eating will be followed as closely as possible
- Children sleep in their allocated cot/mattress – comfort blanket or toy is encouraged.
- Written records of sleeps, food eaten and daily activities are kept for all under one year olds in the child’s ‘Message Book”. This is a vital communication tool for parents and staff. The Message Book must return to the centre daily
- All Children will sleep or rest in the sleep room.
- A staff member will stay in the sleep room until each child is asleep
- Staff check all sleeping children every ten minutes.
- Children sleep after lunch (12.00 – 2.30)
- Sleep and waking times are recorded on the sleep chart.
- Wickham Preschool provides mattresses and linen. Bed linen is kept in named bags and laundered by Wickham staff each week.
Visitors
- Staff welcome visitors and our open door policy encourages visits by all family members/whanau, friends and community personnel.
Children love to share their activities and we encourage family/whanau to spend time with their child at Wickham.

Throughout the year we have family/whanau gatherings some of which may include:

No Smoking Policy
- Wickham car park, grounds and building are “No Smoking” zones. Please ensure you adhere to this policy.
